- The 2020 theme of the India Ideas Summit is ‘Building a Better Future’. The summit is hosted by US-India Business Council. This year’s edition marks the 45th anniversary of the founding of the council.
- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on July 21, 2020 that his government has approved ‘Mukhya Mantri Ghar Ration Yojana’. The scheme will enable all beneficiaries to avail doorstep delivery of ration.
- The Andhra Pradesh state government has planned to reopen schools from September 5, 2020. However, the final decision will be taken after evaluating the situation when the date approaches.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 22, 2020 congratulated the nuclear scientists as Gujarat’s Kakrapar atomic power plant-3 achieved criticality. The Prime Minister highlighted that the indigenous 700 MWe KAPP-3 reactor will be a shining example of the ‘Make in India’ campaign.
- South Korea launched its first-ever military communications satellite on July 20, 2020. The satellite was launched by private operator SpaceX. The military satellite, ANASIS-II is aimed at enhancing the nation’s ability to defend itself against nuclear-armed North Korea.
- A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Alaska on July 22, 2020. This was confirmed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. A Tsunami warning had been issued initially but it was later cancelled.
- Karnataka Deputy CM C.N. Ashwathnarayan on July 21 inaugurated state’s maiden plasma bank at HCG Hospital, Bengaluru as a part of Mission COPE (COVID Plasma Endeavour).
- The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held in the UAE. This was confirmed by the IPL governing council chairman Brijesh Patel on July 22, 2020. Both UAE and Sri Lanka had offered to host the league considering the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India.
