1. Sumit Nagal became only the third Indian to win a men’s singles match at an Olympics edition and the first in 25 years, when he defeated Denis Istomin in the first match at Tokyo Games. Zeeshan Ali was the first Indian to win a singles match at the 1988 Seoul Games when he beat Victo Caballero from Paraguay. After that, Leander Paes won the men’s singles bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Games, beating Brazil’s Fernando Meligeni.
2. The Union Government has amended the rules pertaining to incorporation of companies under the Companies Act, 2013. The Corporate affairs ministry, which is implementing the Companies Act, 2013, has amended the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014.
Changes are made with respect to allotment of a new name to an existing company under Section 16 of the Act. The changes will come into effect from September 1.
3. As per the RBI data, India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 835 million to touch a record high of USD 612.73 billion in the week ended July 16, 2021.The foreign currency assets (FCA) is the major component of the overall reserves. It rose by USD 463 million to USD 568.748 billion in the week. Gold reserves were up by USD 377 million and the special drawing rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were up by USD 1 million. With this, India became the fourth largest Forex holder.
4. NASA has selected Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), to provide launch services for Europa Clipper Mission. It is the Earth’s first mission to conduct detailed investigations of Jupiter’s moon Europa. The mission will launch in October 2024 on a Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory leads the development of the Europa Clipper mission in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
5. According to the third annual report on periodic labour force survey (PLFS), conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) between July 2019-June 2020, the unemployment rate fell to 4.8% in 2019-20. The unemployment rate in 2018-19 was 5.8% and in 2017-18 was 6.1%. Labour indicators recorded an increase in 2019-20, as compared to previous years.
6. Dholavira, a Harappan-era city was added to the list of World Heritage Sites by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on July 27, 2021. The city is located in Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch.

8. World Mangrove Day is celebrated every year on July 26th. The day aims to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems as a unique, special and vulnerable ecosystem and to promote solutions for their sustainable management, conservation and uses.
