1. World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28. The day aims to boost national and international efforts on hepatitis and encourage actions and engagement by individuals and partners to enhance the awareness regarding the disease.
2. India-Indonesia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue was conducted in New Delhi on July 28, 2020 between Indian delegation led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and visiting Indonesian delegation led by Defence Minister General Prabowo Subianto.
3. The first five Rafale aircraft took off from France on July 27, 2020. The aircraft are being flown to India in two stages. They had a stopover at Al Dhafra airbase in the UAE after a sortie of over seven hours. The jets are scheduled to reach Ambala in India on July 29.
4. The Chhattisgarh state government has decided to extend the lockdown till August 6, 2020 in hotspot areas after witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of cabinet ministers and senior officials chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on July 27, 2020.
5. West Bengal has decided to extend state-wide lockdown (2 days in a week) till August 31, 2020. The announcement was made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The state will observe a complete lockdown on 2nd, 5th, 8th, 9th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 31st August.
6. India and the United Kingdom have decided to further extend their existing scientific research collaboration with five new projects that are worth eight million pounds. The research work will involve tackling anti-microbial resistance that will lead to important advances in the global fight against antibiotic-resistance bacteria and genes.
7. Walmart-owned Flipkart has launched a hyper local 90-minute delivery service called Flipkart Quick in Bengaluru for various categories of products including grocery, home accessories, electronics and mobiles.
8. Haryana will host the 4th Khelo India Youth Games in 2021. This was announced by Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar through video conferencing on July 26, 2020. The Khelo India Youth Games are scheduled to take place after the Tokyo Olympics next year.
