1. International Tiger Day 2021 is observed across the world on July 29th. The theme of the day this year is “Their Survival is in our hands”. The theme highlights the important role in protecting the natural habitat of tigers and maintaining a balanced ecosystem across the globe.
2. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on July 28, 2021, that the state government will launch Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhoomihin Krishi Majdoor Nyay Yojana under which the landless families will be provided financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 every year.
3. An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the Alaskan Peninsula on July 28, 2021. A Tsunami alert for South Alaska and the Alaskan Peninsula was immediately issued by the US Government’s National Tsunami Warning Center.
4. The world’s largest star sapphire cluster has been found by accident in a backyard in Sri Lanka. The newly found rock has been named the ‘Serendipity Sapphire’.
5. India’s billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has announced to launch his own ultra-low-cost airline called Akasa Air. He is expecting a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Aviation, Government of India in the next 15 days.
6. Najib Mikati on July 26, 2021, became Lebanon’s new Prime Minister with 72 votes in parliament. This will be the third stint of Mikati as Lebanon’s Prime Minister, as he had briefly served as caretaker Prime Minister in April 2005, and in 2011, he had headed a full-scale government for three years.
7. A report by the American Federation of Scientists on July 26, 2021 revealed that satellite images indicate that China is building a new field of nuclear missile silos near Hami in the eastern part of its Xinjiang region.
8. Nepal on July 27, 2021 confirmed the detection of the mutant Kappa variant (B.1.617.1) of COVID-19’s Delta variant. Nepal had already confirmed the presence of Alpha and Delta variants in the country.
