1. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin on August 5, 2021, launched the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ (healthcare services at people’s doorstep) scheme in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
2. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 4, 2021, announced that an Educational Empowerment Fund as a part of the Vidyakiranam initiative will be set up to offer digital services and tools such as laptops or tablets to ensure digital education for all students. The Fund will be like the Disaster Relief Fund.
3. The Delhi Government on August 4, 2021, issued revised rates of RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Detection Test (RAT) tests for COVID-19. The RT-PCR test will now be priced at Rs 300 in case the government teams collect samples. The RT-PCR test will cost Rs 400 in case the private lab teams collect and process the samples for the government. The RT-PCR test will cost Rs 500 when people give their samples at private hospitals, collection facilities, or labs. These include the sample collection and testing costs.
4. The Ram Temple being built in the Ayodhya will be open to devotees by December 2023. The entire construction work of the temple is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
5. The United Kingdom has moved India from red to amber list, lifting the mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine for fully vaccinated passengers from India. Those returning from countries in the Amber list are not subjected to compulsory institutional quarantine, instead, they have to undergo a 10-day quarantining at home.
6. Indian men’s hockey team created history on August 5, 2021 by winning the bronze medal after a stunning 5-4 victory over Germany in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. The Indian men’s hockey team had last won the gold medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.
7. The Reserve Bank of India has issued guidelines for the implementation of the circular on the opening of current accounts by banks. The apex bank has given all the banks time until October end to implement the new rules on current accounts issued in 2020. RBI had previously set the deadline of July 31, 2021.
8. New Zealand will tour Pakistan this year, for the first time in 18 years. Their tour will start with three ODIs in Rawalpindi on September 17 and culminate with five T20Is in Lahore. This is a part of Pakistan’s efforts to bring cricket back home. This will be the first time that New Zealand will tour the country since November 2003.
