- Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh from Varanasi is all set to become a first woman fighter pilot to fly Rafale aircraft. She is currently undergoing conversion training to fly the Rafale jet and will soon be joining the Ambala based No. 17 squadron, which is also known as ‘Golden Arrows’.
- The Maharashtra state government had launched the ‘My Family My Responsibility’ campaign on September 15 to reach out to every family residing in Mumbai. Under the campaign, around 55,268 teams were formed to reach out to each household. Till now, over 2.24 crore people have been checked already under the campaign, which includes around 69.94 lakh households.
- Russia will soon register a second COVID-19 vaccine, informed Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 23, 2020. The national consumer health watchdog stated on September 22 that another vaccine, developed by the Vector research centre, which is dubbed as EpiVacCorona would be registered by October 15.
- Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine entered Phase 3 trials in the United States on September 23, 2020. This is the fourth COVID vaccine candidate to enter the last stage of trials in the US, after Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca.
- United Nations and Britain will co-host a global climate summit on December 12, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement. The summit will see the involvement of many governments, leaders, private sector and civil society to present more ambitious and high-quality climate plans.
- Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi passed away in New Delhi on September 23, 2020 due to COVID-19. He is the first Union Minister to have sucandbed to the deadly virus. The Minister had tested positive for COVID-19 on September 11 and was under treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at the time of death.
- The legendary former Australian batsman Dean Jones passed away on September 24, 2020 in Mumbai, India due to cardiac arrest. He was 59. Jones was part of the Star Sports commentary team and was in a bio-secure bubble in a seven-star hotel in Mumbai.
- The World Maritime Day 2020 was observed on September 24, 2020. The day is being observed this year with the theme: Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet. The day is observed annually on the last Thursday of September.
